
A knife-wielding suspect was fatally shot by a deputy in Norco, as authorities have reported. The incident unfolded on Thursday evening when deputies responded to reports of an armed individual at Hamner Avenue and 6th Street.
According to a statement obtained by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival at the scene around 6:02 p.m., deputies confronted the suspect and commanded him to drop his weapon. The suspect, disregarding the deputies' commands, advanced with the knife, prompting the shooting. Rendered medical aid by deputies, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, not leaving any deputies injured.
The deceased's identity remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin. In line with standard procedures, the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave. The shooting has triggered an investigation, spearheaded by the Riverside Sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail, along with counterparts from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
