Chaos erupted on the streets of Wilshire after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle led to a suspect being hospitalized following a K9 takedown. The incident unfolded on Saturday when officers on patrol were tipped off by a license plate reader to the presence of the stolen car driven by 21-year-old Ian Jimenez. as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.
A high-speed chase came to an abrupt halt after Jimenez, in a desperate bid to evade arrest, crashed into another vehicle injuring its occupant, according to the LAPD Newsroom. In a scene straight out of a cop show, minus the dramatic music, Jimenez continued his flight on foot leading officers on a chase through the neighborhood.
Police established a perimeter and unleashed their K9 units. Jimenez was spotted slipping out the back door of a house on Masselin Avenue only to confront a police dog up close and personal. The suspect gave the K9 quite a fight before taking off again, proving resilience in the face of, the literal jaws of law enforcement. He was captured a block away after another dogged pursuit by the second K9 team.
Jimenez's escapade ended at the hospital, where he received treatment for injuries incurred during his scrimmage with the K9. After initially being cleared, a re-evaluation on Monday sent him back for medical attention for his injured forearm. While the LAPD agents walked away unscathed, a resident wasn't as lucky, suffering pain from the collision caused by Jimenez's joyride, as per Los Angeles Police Department.
The LAPD's Force Investigation Division is now dissecting the incident, pulling together threads of witness statements and forensic evidence in a bid to understand every nuance of the Saturday skirmish that left a civilian injured and a suspect hospitalized. The truth, they say, will come to light as their probe continues to flesh out this tale of crime and punishment on the streets of Los Angeles.
