Philadelphia police are on the lookout for a suspect accused of stealing a cache of spine implants valued at more than $100,000 from a vehicle in a Center City parking garage. The theft was caught on camera and occurred on the 2300 block of Race Street around 4:30 am on February 19, according to the Central Detective Division of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Authorities reported that a total of 26 spine implants were taken from the car. Surveillance footage revealed an individual, described as a male, wearing a surgical mask and clad in dark clothing, committing the heist. Clad in a trash bag, he was seen exiting the parking garage after the alleged theft, as FOX 29 News reported.
The Philadelphia police have warned the public not to approach the suspect if spotted, but to call 911 immediately. Details about the suspect have been circulated with a call for assistance in his identification. The high valuation of the stolen medical implants underscores the gravity of the theft and its potential impact on health care services, as these specialized devices are crucial for patients undergoing spinal surgeries.
While attempts to recover the stolen property continue, the suspect remains at large. Wearing a surgical mask during the theft, police say the disguise might make it harder to identify him. The Philadelphia Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward, as they intensify their search. A video of the suspect has been released to the public and can be viewed FOX News reports.
