The streets of San Fernando Gardens have been marked by the presence of the LAPD Operations-Valley Bureau Homicide detectives, following the arrest of multiple murder suspects linked to a harrowing incident earlier this month. According to LAPD Headquarters, the arrests are in connection with a brutal shooting on January 8, when two teenagers were ambushed by assailants in a silver Dodge Charger around 7:08 p.m. near the 13000 block of Carl Street. One of the victims, after a brief conversation turned deadly, was gunned down as he attempted to flee; his companion, who was shot in the leg, narrowly escaped.
Amid the chaos of that night, one victim was eventually cornered and mercilessly shot, reminiscent of an execution. The extensive investigation led by detectives, and supported by various specialized units including the Foothill Area Gang Intelligence Team and the Community Safety Partnership Bureau, spanned multiple jurisdictions and involved a series of residence searches. This resulted in the seizure of firearms and substantial evidence leading to multiple arrests.
The first of the arrests took place on January 26, when two main suspects, known as Subject-1-Gomez and Subject-2-Lopez, were apprehended and booked on murder charges with no option for bail. Their arrest was made near the 9000 block of Nipa Avenue around midday, as reported by the LAPD Headquarters.
Following suit, a third suspect, Giovanny Montesdeoca, was taken into custody hours later, near the 43500 block of Kirkland Avenue, for his alleged role in the violent altercation. Like those arrested, Jose Espinoza, captured three days after on the 800 block of South Victoria Avenue, faces murder charges with his bail denied. Both are accused of playing pivotal roles in the merciless onslaught that took the life of one teen and wounded another.
