
A 19-year-old man was killed in Southfield when the stolen car he was driving smashed into a fence while he was fleeing from police, officials said. The fatal crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Westhampton Avenue and Evergreen Road, according to reports from the Southfield Police Department.
The teenage driver lost control of a Kia reported stolen, hitting a barrier on Evergreen shortly after officers attempted to pull him over, as detailed in a press release by the Southfield Police Department and cited by The Detroit News. The young man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Two 17-year-old girls who were passengers in the vehicle also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, the names of the victims have not been released, and a investigation into the crash remains ongoing. The Southfield Police Department has not provided any further details about the circumstances that led to the pursuit or the crash.
