A teenage boy is in the hospital after a shooting on Fairburn Road in Southwest Atlanta, authorities said earlier today. The Atlanta Police Department reported that around 4:46 p.m. on February 20, officers from Zone 4 responded to 415 Fairburn Rd. SW following reports of gun violence, where they discovered a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, who has not been named, was found to be "alert, conscious, and breathing" when police arrived at the scene of the crime, he was then quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention; according to officials, the young man was simply walking in the neighborhood when the sound of gunfire erupted and he was struck.
The case is now being investigated by the Aggravated Assault Unit as they work to understand the full scope of the incident, the information was confirmed in an online statement by the Atlanta Police Department. Investigators have not yet provided details on the suspect or if they have any leads on who is responsible for the shooting.
