Tokyo Electron, a heavyweight in the global semiconductor industry, has inked a deal to set up shop in Austin's fresh-faced RiverSouth tower, leaving behind its longtime Southeast Austin pad. Details gleaned from Community Impact reveal the Japan-based company isn't downsizing, instead snapping up nearly 100,000 square feet of the sleek 15-story complex to bolster its North American ops, headquartered in Texas's capital for over three decades.

The significant square footage Tokyo Electron is claiming at RiverSouth signifies more than just a new address—located at 401 S. First St., the high-rise sits in a bustling part of town not far from the scenic Auditorium Shores. Tokyo Electron has been cozying up next to academic neighbors like the University of Texas Montopolis Research Center and mingling with fellow semiconductor titan Infineon Technologies, while its exact move-in date is still under wraps, the company's executive top brass is all buzz with the shift. "For 30 years, Tokyo Electron’s North American Headquarters has been located in Southeast Austin, We can confirm that we have signed a lease at RiverSouth, and we are excited to enhance and grow our presence in new spaces in Austin for decades to come. We are enthusiastic about what lies ahead for our employees, stakeholders and customers," Rick Turner, Tokyo Electron's executive vice president, CFO, and general manager of administration, said in a statement obtained by Community Impact.

The move doesn't come out of the blue, following the company's announcement last year that it intended to sell its vast 107-acre Southeast Austin campus. Tokyo Electron is a key player for tech bigshot Samsung, providing the tools needed to fabricate semiconductors and other electronics goods fundamental to the industry. The company employs around 450 people in the Central Texas region, now set to rub shoulders with diverse businesses and green spaces that RiverSouth calls neighbors.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Turner confirmed the freshly minted lease and the company's intentions to flourish in its new digs, "For 30 years, Tokyo Electron’s North American headquarters has been located in southeast Austin We can confirm that we have signed a lease at RiverSouth and we are excited to enhance and grow our presence in new spaces in Austin for decades to come. We are enthusiastic about what lies ahead for our employees, stakeholders and customers." This vote of confidence underscores the strategic maneuvering within Austin's tech landscape as the city's draw for industry leaders only seems to intensify.
