
Early Thursday morning, a fire broke out in the 1900 block of Morehouse Drive NW in Atlanta, resulting in a tragic fatality. According to the Atlanta Police Department, firefighters were dispatched shortly before 4:30 a.m. after receiving calls about a residential fire with someone trapped inside. Upon arrival, they were met by a woman screaming that a man was still in the house.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) entered the burning home through a rear door, finding a 65-year-old man unconscious in the bathroom; suffering from severe burns to his legs and in desperate need of assistance, firefighters immediately initiated CPR and other critical medical care on scene, he was transported to the Grady Emergency Room by Grady EMS and an accompanying firefighter, but despite extensive life-saving efforts, the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The response from fire crews was immediate and aggressive as they conducted an offensive attack to contain and extinguish the inferno, the firefighters were successful in preventing further injuries and damages, at present, the cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials seek to understand the origin of this tragic event.
There were no further reports of injuries, and authorities have since been examining the site to establish the circumstances that led to this incident.
