
A late-night crash in Long Beach claimed the life of a male driver on February 20th, after two vehicles collided at a city intersection. The Long Beach Police Department reported that the fatal encounter occurred around 11:48 p.m. according to a statement on their blotter.
The LBPD's Collision Investigation detectives are currently to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The identity of the deceased has yet to be made public, pending notification of next of kin. The second driver involved in the smash-up was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and notably stayed to cooperate with law enforcement officers on the scene.
Evidence indicates that the deceased individual's 2012 Ford Focus was struck mid-intersection by a 2012 Lexus IS250, causing the Ford to careen out of control, hitting a traffic signal and an abandoned building. The Lexus subsequently plowed into a bus bench. The authorities are considering speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving as likely culprits in the cause of the accident.
Witnesses to this tragic event are urged, to now come forward and assist the LBPD in piecing together the incident.
