A devastating highway tragedy in Alabama has claimed the lives of a 19-year-old pregnant woman, Tanysia Middlebrooks, and her unborn child. The young woman, on the brink of motherhood, was fatally hit by a semitruck on U.S. 431, immediately north of Anniston, Alabama, as reported by Atlanta News First. Sherrika Allen, the victim's mother, revealed her daughter was expecting a son, already named Aanai Kaier, and was traveling with the child's father from Georgia to visit a school in Alabama when the accident occurred.

Tanysia, remembered for her happy and sassy nature, was eight months pregnant. Her last conversation with her mother was about her eagerly anticipated baby shower. "She was having a boy, and his name was gonna be Aanai Kaier," Allen said in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First. Following a prior crash in the early hours of Jan. 26, which led her to exit her vehicle, she was struck when a semitruck collided into her car, pushing it against her, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Tanysia's mother and father, Tavares Middlebrooks, are now grappling with the shock and sorrow of their tremendous loss, expressing their need to understand the full scope of what led to the catastrophe. "It's just a lot of unanswered questions we don't know the answer to, and we want to know what really happened," Tavares Middlebrooks told WSFA. The family confirmed the harrowing detail that alongside Tanysia, the unborn child did not survive the crash.

Tavares, who himself drives tractor-trailers, questioned the attentiveness of the truck driver involved. "For me, I drive tractor-trailers. How I feel is that he wasn’t paying attention. You can see further down the road than someone in a regular vehicle. There shouldn’t have been no reason he couldn’t see ahead of him," he explained in an interview with WSFA. Despite the tragic outcome, the 57-year-old man driving the truck has yet to be charged with a crime, as per information from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported by Atlanta News First.

The family, amidst their grief, is resolute to keep the memory of Tanysia and her unborn son alive. Allen seeks to cherish the vibrant spirit of her daughter, saying, "I just want to remember her as a happy, you know, just remember her smiling," a sentiment shared during her conversation with Atlanta News First. As they navigate through this time of immense despair, the quest for clarity and answers persists.
