Gunfire shattered the peace in a Georgia neighborhood, leading the GBI to slap cuffs on two for a Thomson slaying. Ra’Quan Reese, 23, from Warrenton, and Sherkendria Duggans, 22, of Thomson, face felony murder and aggravated assault raps in the wake of a fatal shooting that claimed the life of Otekqueonna Williams, 21, also of Thomson.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, beefing up the local probe into the death, fingered the duo following a violent confrontation in Thomson on February 11. According to the GBI, an early morning spat on McCommons Street spiraled into chaos as shots were exchanged between feuding parties. Williams, along with another woman from Warrenton, caught the deadly crossfire. Tragically, Williams succumbed to her wounds at a local medical facility, while the other victim was rushed to a hospital in Augusta, her condition unknown.
Neither Williams nor the injured woman were trading barbs with either faction, as the GBI's investigation revealed. Instead, they appear to have been unintended casualties of a bitter dispute turned lethal. Currently, Reese and Duggans are cooling their heels at the McDuffie County Jail, awaiting the next steps in a case that remains tightly under wraps, as GBI sleuths continue to dig for answers.
The GBI is calling on the public to come forward with any insights that could help unravel the event's full narrative. Leads can be fed to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, or the GBI at its Thomson office. Tipsters desiring anonymity have the option of calling a dedicated hotline or submitting information through a digital form, even going as far, as to use an app designed to help citizens report suspicious activity without revealing their identity. Once the investigation wraps, it'll be up to the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office to steer the course of prosecution, as stated by the GBI.
