Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly shooting that left one teenager dead and two other men wounded in Houston last year. The Houston Police Department identified the suspects as Matthew Berlanga, 19, and Jeremiah Mireles, 21, facing murder charges for the November 2022 incident that occurred at an apartment complex on East 11th 1/2 Street.
According to a news release from the City of Houston, the 645 East 11th 1/2 Street shooting took place around 8:05 p.m. on November 26, 2022, leaving one Isaac de Los Santos, 17, dead at the scene. Booked into the Harris County Jail, Berlanga turned himself in on Monday (February 26), while Mireles was apprehended in March 2023 by officers from the HPD Central Patrol Crime Suppression Team without incident.
The investigation, as reported by HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Providence and A. Ledford, initially had no known suspects or motives. Officers found the unresponsive male victim with multiple gunshot wounds and declared deceased by paramedics, alongside two others who sustained injuries but survived after hospitalization.
The breakthrough came after further sleuthing pegged Berlanga and Mireles as the prime suspects, leading to their subsequent charging. They are now set to face the wheels of justice, with their cases slated for the 488th and 230th State District Courts, respectively.
