Two men face serious time behind bars after being charged with felony charges for a series of high-tech heists at Apple stores in Berkeley and Emeryville. According to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, Tyler Anthony Mims, 23, and Undre Deshaun Railey, 28, have been officially charged with multiple counts of commercial burglary and grand theft, along with misdemeanors for organized retail theft in concert. The alleged spree of gadget grabbing stretched from late November last year through the start of February.
In a statement from Alameda County DA, Pamela Price revealed that "Prosecutors from our Organized Retail Crime Alameda (ORCA) Vertical Prosecution Unit were ready to receive the evidence following the apprehension of both suspects and acted quickly to start the justice phase of the process." This declaration came shortly after the two accused Apple burglars' arraignment on February 14, 2024, setting the legal system's wheels in motion.
The duo reportedly made off with a trove of Apple wares in a string of sophisticated retail raids before law enforcement caught up with them. The evidence amassed against Mims and Railey seemed to paint a picture of organized theft conclusively, practiced with precision not commonly seen in such crimes. Their preliminary hearings have been scheduled for the morning of February 28, at the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse as the court prepares to delve deeper into the particulars of their case.
With both defendants now formally facing their accusations, the public eye has turned to follow the upcoming court proceedings. One DA insider, speaking on the condition of anonymity, claimed the evidence was significant enough to lead to a possible swift conviction. This assertion, however, will ultimately be subjected to the scrutiny of the courts in a matter of weeks.
