A Van Nuys man got the shock of his life when he strolled into his home to unexpectedly find it being ransacked by two burglars. The harrowing incident unfolded on a quiet piece of Whitman Avenue near Victory Boulevard around 8 p.m. on Friday night, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department to KTLA.
The unsuspecting homeowner was assaulted upon entry, prompting an investigation into the violent home invasion. The burglars, described as wearing dark clothes, managed to hastily make their escape before the police arrived, as reported by FOX LA. Details about what was stolen from the residence are still unclear, though the sister of the victim mentioned the loss of thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry.
Dramatic video footage from the scene showed officers amassing around the home to commence their investigation into the home invasion. According to ABC7, this encounter left the homeowner with minor injuries including a laceration to the eye which required six stitches.
Describing the chilling confrontation, the victim's sister, Katina Fields, recounted to KTLA how her brother was preparing to attend her birthday party when he walked in on the burglary in progress. "When he opened the gate, and he came in the gate, that's when he got jumped," Fields said. The suspects allegedly demanded to know where the money was hidden, with Fields revealing, "My brother was like, 'there's no money in here.'"
No arrests have been reported yet as authorities continue to painstakingly search for leads. The suspects' descriptions remain vague with no further information about a potential getaway vehicle. The community meanwhile has been left to grapple with the unsettling violation of their neighbor's sanctuary, as the search for the suspects continues.
