A seemingly routine call to Victorville deputies for an unknown problem took an unexpected turn when they apprehended a man with a serious score to settle with the feds. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, February 20, led to the arrest of 28-year-old Hesperia resident, Mark Ramirez.
The deputies were summoned around 4:38 p.m. after a distressed woman's plea for help abruptly ended. A frantic yell, the line going dead, and a hunch led deputies to the 12000 block of Dunia Rd, where the drama unfolded. During their search, deputies located Ramirez a mere 25 feet down in a wash, his attempted escape proving futile, according to the Victorville Police Department.
Ramirez, it appeared, had more than just a fondness for hiding in washes. The man was wanted on an outstanding federal warrant, and now, thanks to his not-so-stealthy retreat, he's swapping a wash hollow for a detention center cell. Detained without the opportunity to post bail, Ramirez was booked at the High Desert Detention Center, as stated by the Victorville Police Department.
The Victorville police are keeping their cards close, revealing little about the warrant or what Ramirez was wanted for, but they are clear on one thing: if you've got the 411 on this case, they want to hear from you.
