The Long Beach Police Department responded to a shooting early Sunday morning on the 5300 block of E. 2nd Street. The victim, a male adult, suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body following a verbal dispute with an unidentified group, according to the police. Officers arrived at the scene around 12:58 a.m., and the Long Beach Fire Department swiftly transported the victim to the hospital. The altercation that led to the shooting began with a war of words which tragically managed to escalate, ending in the suspect revealing a firearm and shooting the victim before fleeing undetected.
Another shooting occurred on Saturday night in the 1500 block of Seabright Avenue. Dispatched at approximately 9:28 p.m., officers found a male adult with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The skirmish stemmed from a verbal altercation that devolved into a physical fight, during which the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim. In the wake of the gunfire, the suspect made a quick escape. Paramedics arrived and took the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Long Beach authorities are still piecing together this violent encounter, with the suspect at large.
In a separate event that same day, around 6:47 p.m., residents of 20th Street and Pine Avenue were startled by the sound of a gunshot. Police arrived to find a man who thankfully was unharmed. He reported that after a brief exchange of words, the suspect brandished a firearm and fired a shot into the air. The suspect fled shortly thereafter. Officers are currently investigating what has been deemed as a negligent discharge, with no injuries fortunately coming to pass.
