A tragic Valentine's Day shooting has claimed the life of a young woman at a DeKalb County apartment complex, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred yesterday evening, shortly after 9:30 p.m., at a location within the 2100 block of Bedevere Circle, as per reports obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. The victim, whose identity remains withheld, was in her late teens to early 20s.
Police arrived at the scene to find to already have found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the location. As disclosed by Channel 2 Action News, no suspects are currently in custody, and the DeKalb County Police Department's homicide detectives believe that the victim was acquainted with the assailant. The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting, however, are still not clear.
The DeKalb County Police Department has not yet released the name of the deceased, and the investigation is ongoing in an attempt to piece together the motive and sequence of events that culminated in this violent act. The law enforcement spokesperson has relayed that more information will be made public as it becomes available.
The DeKalb County Police urge anyone with information to help to come forward as the department continues to investigate the murder.
