
A 13-year-old boy was cuffed for a daylight armed robbery in Washington D.C., local law enforcement officials reported. The juvenile was accused of ambushing a woman and snatching her cellphone at gunpoint in the Southeast sector of the nation's capital. The Metropolitan Police Department's First District officers quickly responded to the emergency call and managed to quickly locate the suspect.
The incident went down on March 22, in the middle of the afternoon. According to the MPD, at approximately 4:16 p.m., the victim had just parked her car on the 900 block of First Street, Southeast, when she observed she was being tailed. The assailants struck, with one wielding what appeared to be a firearm. The young robbers then made a break for it, leaving the scene in disarray.
Thankfully, officers were able swiftly to apprehend one of the young men involved. In the course of the arrest, they retrieved a pellet gun, suspected to have been used in the robbery. The minor, hailing from Southeast, now faces charges for both Armed Robbery and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, as per the official statement by the MPD.
More details surrounding the case and the status of the ongoing investigation remain sparse. Community members have been shaken by the brazenness of the crime, committed by such a young perpetrator.
