A Scottsdale altercation between roommates has ended in tragedy, as a 76-year-old man was arrested for the deadly stabbing of his 69-year-old roommate at the Riviera Mobile Home Park, police said.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on March 27 and stemmed from an escalated argument between Timothy Rexford Grant and the victim, David Ricks, who had lived together for over a decade, now one roommate is dead and the other in jail, accused of killing him in what police describe as an isolated incident inside their residence. Grant has been charged with manslaughter following the confrontation.
Officials have reported that the two men were drinking before the fight broke out, which culminated in Ricks suffering multiple knife wounds to the stomach area and upper chest. In a neighbor's call to 911, the suspect was found with blood on his person, signaling the violent nature of the scuffle.
Grant's account of the incident changed several times under police questioning; in one instance, he claimed to have no memory of the fight, saying that he must have blacked out and later speculated the men could have been wrestling although couldn't recall if they actually wrestled, according to azfamily.com. He was taken into custody and is being held at a Maricopa County jail on the manslaughter charge, as investigators continue to unravel the details that led to the deadly dispute.
Ricks was quickly transported to a local hospital after the attack, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing as Scottsdale Police work to piece together the events that led to this violent end of what was a long-term living arrangement.
