Flames engulfed a row of businesses on South Westwood Boulevard in West Los Angeles late last night, prompting a massive response from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). According to the LAFD, the blaze was reported at 11:31 pm at 2377 S Westwood Bl and took firefighters nearly two and half hours to knock down.
The intensity of the fire through the roof of the one-story commercial strip required a total of 90 firefighters who conducted largely defensive operations to control and eventually extinguish the heavy fire. In an update posted on the LAFD website, officials reported, "Thankfully, there were no reported injuries." The cause of the blaze has not been determined and is currently under investigation.
Though the fire raged into the early hours of the morning, emergency personnel were able to contain the fire within the original structure. The coordinated efforts of crews from across the South Bureau, including specialized units, were instrumental in the successful knockdown of the fire.
LAFD's Nicholas Prange stated, "Ninety LAFD firefighters took 2 hours and 19 minutes in largely defensive operations to access, confine and fully extinguish heavy fire within." Among the responding units were Battalion Chiefs, Heavy Rescue, and Urban Search and Rescue teams. Council District 5, which encompasses the area affected by the fire, will be watching closely as the aftermath of an blaze is assessed.
Fire stations 92 and several other units from the battalion have been recognized for their efficient handling of the incident, ensuring minimal damage to adjacent structures and no civilian casualties. As authorities sift through the charred remnants of what was once a bustling commercial strip, the full impact of the fire on the local business community remains to be seen.
