The Alameda Police Department scored big after wrapping up an investigation into a large-scale retail theft ring operating out of the South Shore Shopping Center's Old Navy store, as announced in a recent Facebook post. The department successfully recovered a stash of stolen goods estimated to be worth around $75,000.
APD detectives worked to methodically identify and track down the culprits behind the thefts, eventually unearthing a network specializing in the bulk removal of retail merchandise. In a collaborative effort that showcased the benefits of cross-departmental cooperation, the APD teamed up with Old Navy's loss prevention squad and the California Highway Patrol's Organized Retail Crime Task Force. Their joint endeavor led to the recovery of a significant cache, including eight truckloads of stolen goods, multiple stolen vehicles, and over $10,000 in cold hard cash.
According to a Facebook post shared by the Alameda Police Department, several retailers, including Kohl’s, LensCrafters, Ross, TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, Walgreens, Carter’s, Walmart, Safeway, and Nordstrom, joined forces with the APD to bring the operation to a halt. Investigations Lieutenant, Brian Foster, emphasized the ongoing nature of the battle against retail crime, stating, "While we celebrate this significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to address organized retail theft, we recognize our work is far from over."
The efforts to bust the retail theft ring have not gone unnoticed, with the APD expressing gratitude towards all the partners involved. Foster's determination to continue fiercely to fight organized crime was evident in his further statement, "We remain committed to working closely with our community partners to ensure safe shopping experiences and help support the success of our local businesses."
