An escaped prisoner who led US Marshals on a multi-day manhunt after fleeing from a Philadelphia hospital was captured in Johnstown, officials said Thursday. Alleem Borden, 29, went on the lam on February 22 after escaping custody while his hands were cuffed behind his back. He had been arrested for allegedly stealing a car days before and was found sleeping in the stolen vehicle, as reported by 6abc.

In a dramatic turn of events, Borden, initially taken to Episcopal Hospital for back pain, bolted from authorities as he was being discharged, according to NBC Philadelphia.
His escape included a daring 30-foot leap down an embankment, eluding officers with his wrists still shackled. "The Marshal Service, I think they're the best in the world of finding people who don't want to be found," Supervisor Deputy U.S. Marshal Rob Clark, as per 6abc.
Borden's breakout adds to a recent spate of escapes in the Philly area, noted by a PhillyVoice report. Just last month, seventeen-year-old Shane Pryor, accused of murder, was recaptured four days, after escaping outside the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Pryor had been there to receive treatment for an injured hand. These incidents have put a spotlight on the challenges law enforcement faces in securely transporting and guarding suspects with medical needs.
