Timothy Allen Torell Wetzstein, a 31-year-old man from Apple Valley, was hit with a stiff sentence of 13.5 years behind bars for his illegal stash of drugs and guns. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Wetzstein's sentencing followed by a five-year leash of supervised release, as part of his comeuppance for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The long arm of the law caught up with Wetzstein on July 23, 2023, when officers, armed with outstanding warrants tried to slap the cuffs on him. The pursuit was on foot and, although it was short-lived, Wetzstein tried to ditch a .45 caliber semi-auto in his panic. The police dug into Wetzstein’s backpack and wheels, uncovering meth, fentanyl, a stack of cash over $11,000, and three more firearms, as per the Justice Department.

Wetzstein, apparently no novice to this game, copped to toting around the drugs and heat not just once but on several occasions from October 2020 through July 2023. The fall came after a guilty plea for one count of possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz handed down the sentence in U.S. District Court yesterday, cementing Wetzstein's future and this case as one for the books. The collar and subsequent conviction were the fruits of a concerted effort by the FBI, the local boys in blue from Ramsey Police Department, and a laundry list of law enforcement agencies including the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Dakota County Drug Task Force, and Minneapolis Police Department.
