Delta Air Lines is gearing up for the 2028 Summer Olympics with a special edition Airbus A350-900 plane, recently spotted at a factory in France. This customized aircraft is still without engines, but once completed, it’s expected to be delivered in the coming months, ready to take flight with a bold livery inspired by the Los Angeles games.
According to FOX5 Atlanta, Delta, the Atlanta-based carrier, has big plans to fully embrace its role as the inaugural founding partner for LA 2028. The airline is already the official airline of Team USA for not only the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics but also the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Eyes are set squarely on the spectacle to be held in LA four years hence, where Delta plans to showcase its dedication through the skies.
The “LA28” emblem emblazoned on the plane symbolizes creativity, diversity, self-expression, and inclusion, Delta stated in a nod to LA's unique spirit. Photos of the aircraft, which have surfaced on social media, display a design with white fuselage up front and the Delta x LA28 emblem boldly stretched underneath the cabin windows. As reported by Simple Flying, the aesthetics don't stop there—palm trees and a California sunset complete the look.
Delta is looking to debut the plane around the time the Paris 2024 Olympics kick off on July 26, leveraging the widebody aircraft to proudly represent and to actively promote its status as the official conveyor of Team USA athletes. “The LA28 emblem honors creativity, diversity, self-expression and inclusion. The ever-changing 'A' is a reminder of the infinite stories of individuality and possibilities that comprise the city of LA and the LA28 Games,” Delta explained, as mentioned by Simple Flying.
Bearing the registration F-WZNU or N522DZ when operational, this isn’t Delta's first foray into Olympic-themed aircraft. The airline currently flies an A330-900neo with a Team USA livery. This jet sports a design that symbolizes resilience and an aspirational spirit, informed by FOX5 Atlanta. With its latest addition to the fleet, Delta continues to build on its legacy of soaring beyond borders and bridging the gap between dreams and destinations.
