Early Monday morning, an unusual sight befell residents near Cherokee Avenue SE in Atlanta when a police patrol horse was found roaming the streets. Atlanta police have since confirmed that the horse’s unexpected liberty was due to a hole intentionally cut in the fence of the Atlanta Police Department Mounted Patrol facility. In a statement provided to FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities indicated the breach was discovered after the horse was safely corralled back into its stable around 3:50 a.m.
Officers, to quickly secure the situation, responded to the area around 4 a.m. Monday, according to a report by Atlanta News First. The Mounted Patrol officer present guided the escaped horse back to its decidedly more secure accommodations. The cut in the fencing adjacent to the stables suggests a deliberate act enabling the horse to momentarily to enjoy an unscheduled jaunt.
The Atlanta Police Department is now actively investigating the incident and is seeking assistance from the public. Officers upon returning the horse to its stable were surprised to find the compromised section of the fence, pointing to vandalism as the culpret for the equine escape.
Atlanta authorities have not yet identified suspects in the incident and are appealing to anyone with knowledge to come forward. "Anyone with information is asked to contact the Atlanta Police Department," as per the statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. This call extends a community-based effort to ensure to thoroughly investigate and respond to this act of property damage and potential threat to public safety.
