Atlanta is on the lookout for a suspect following a deadly shooting occurring at the upscale Buckhead apartment complex last month. On February 23, 31-year-old Valur Valsson was gravely wounded by gunfire at the Ibex at Uptown apartments, as reported by Atlanta News First. Despite being rushed to a hospital in critical condition, Valsson's injuries proved fatal.
Surveillance video distributed by police captures a man draped in black, from hoodie to pants and footwear, fleeing through the parking garage of the complex immediately after the shooting. An anonymous tip line has been set up for anyone with information who can contribute to the arrest by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477), or through their website, confidentiality assured. Tips leading to an arrest could lead to a reward of up to $2,000, police informed in a call for assistance.
The location of the attack, part of a mixed-use development featuring residential units along with shops and eateries, is adjacent to the Lindbergh Center MARTA station. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that aside from the human casualty, two vehicles—a black Ford Focus and a black Honda HR-V—were also caught in the crossfire, sustaining damage.
No details have emerged regarding the motive behind the shooting or why Valsson, a local high school and University of West Georgia graduate, was targeted. His family remembers him as "a beacon of kindness, humility and charm," his obituary describes.
