Atlanta police are on the hunt for a witness linked to a fatal shooting that occurred near Georgia State University, as per officials. The incident, which took place on Feb. 25 at a RaceTrac gas station situated at 120 Piedmont Avenue NE, tragically ended the life of a 21-year-old man around 12:30 p.m.

Although the victim’s identity has remained undisclosed, authorities confirmed to FOX 5 Atlanta that he was not a Georgia State student, and it's unclear whether he knew his assailants or was caught in a random act of violence. According to the same source, the incident apparently escalated from a brawl involving three individuals to a shooting.

In the search for answers, investigators released surveillance footage from within the gas station a day after the shooting. They identified two persons of interest: one wearing a black jacket, believed to be the gunman, and another in a red hoodie. Now, more than a week later, and with no substantial updates in the case, police are extending their search for an additional witness donning an orange hoodie, red pants, and black shoes, as disclosed in images caught on camera.

Anyone with potential leads or the ability to identify the individual in the surveillance images is encouraged to contact the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (404) 546-4235. Alternatively, tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers Atlanta at (404) 577-8477, where, as mentioned by Atlanta News First, a $2,000 reward stands for information.

The aftermath of the shooting also impacted local business, leading to the closure of the RaceTrac gas station where the shooting unfolded. RaceTrac's CEO Natalie Morhous expressed, "I am deeply saddened by the recent senseless acts of violence at and near this store," in a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. Morhous cited safety and financial implications as key reasons for the shutdown, acknowledging the significant role their stores play in the community while emphasizing the corporation's commitment to safe operations for both team members and guests.

The nearby student housing and the gas station have also become the target of a lawsuit by the family of a 19-year-old mother, who tragically lost her life in a separate shooting in 2023. Meanwhile, employees affected by the recent RaceTrac closure have been guaranteed the opportunity to continue employment at other RaceTrac locations in Georgia.
