Austin's airport is bracing for a flurry of activity as spring breakers and festival-goers converge on the city this month. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is gearing up for an onslaught of passengers, expecting multiple days to surpass 30,000 travelers, especially on peak days such as March 7, 8, 10, and 11, officials said in a statement obtained by the City of Austin's press release.

Those looking to catch a flight out of Austin are advised to arrive early – at least 2.5 hours before departure for domestic flights, and three hours prior to international takeoffs. AUS is also reminding passengers who need to check in luggage, return the rental car, or have other tasks to do before security to get to the airport even sooner. The airport boasts 3 security screening checkpoints, with Checkpoint 1 accommodating TSA PreCheck and Clear, Checkpoint 2 East open only for TSA PreCheck, and Checkpoint 2 West available for general TSA and Clear users.

In light of recent incidents, AUS is emphasizing the importance of proper packing, especially concerning prohibited items which include firearms and liquids over 3.4 oz. "Bringing prohibited items... will cause delays for passengers," warned officials in a message urging travelers to visit TSA.gov for packing guidelines. Additionally, festival paraphernalia and bulky souvenirs should be tucked away in checked baggage to avoid complications during the screening process.

For those driving to AUS, parking on-site may be a challenge as the airport has announced that during this hectic period, ABIA parking will not take reservations or advance payments. Shuttle services to the terminal are expected to run every 15-20 minutes. A tip for those picking up passengers: the airport suggests using an upper level for departures if the lower level for arrivals is too crowded. Regarding parking, it's recommended that Frontier and Allegiant passengers park at the South Terminal, which is a separate entity from the main Barbara Jordan Terminal.

Interim CEO of AUS Ghizlane Badawi anticipates a successful travel season, stating, "We’re looking forward to helping passengers reach their spring destination this travel season,” as reported by the City of Austin. The airport has urged travelers to plan for delays, follow travel tips provided by AUS, and maintain a courteous demeanor during their trip. Further information, or assistance while at AUS, can be sought by contacting the Airport Operations Center or asking any Department of Aviation staff member for help.
