Gunfire broke out on the 605 Freeway in Baldwin Park Sunday night, leaving construction workers ducking for cover and investigators scrambling for answers. Witnesses reported hearing a barrage of ten gunshots around 9:18 p.m., shortly after which the California Highway Patrol shut down the northbound lanes to investigate the shooting. The suspects, who remain at large, were reportedly in a white older model Dodge Charger with two occupants, according to KTLA.
Authorities search for clues on the freeway came up empty, as evidence of the reported shooting has yet to be made public. A gunshot victim later showed up at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center, with officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department alerting the CHP. They are now investigating whether this injury is connected to the freeway incident, although a direct link has not been confirmed, as noted by KTLA.
In a possibly related event, a second round of gunfire was reported the same night on the 57 Freeway in San Dimas. The incident left a car riddled with a bullet hole, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. In a disturbing evening of events, the suspect vehicle in this shooting is described as a grey Ford Taurus, marking an unsettling trend of freeway violence within just 15 miles of each other. as per ABC7.
Adding to the chaos, a man was shot in his backyard Sunday night and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. It is being investigated by the CHP whether the backyard shooting was connected to the earlier freeway shooting, reported ABC7. The suspect in the Baldwin Park incident is believed to be driving either a Dodge Charger or a Challenger. Law enforcement has released little information as they continue their work piecing together these violent events of the night.
