
An inmate at Bexar County has racked up an additional $50,000 to his bond after assaulting a detention officer, bringing his total bond to a steep $110,000. The altercation, which took place on February 29, escalated when the inmate, identified as Michael Granato, 31, punched the officer, causing a notable injury to the officer's face.
According to FOX San Antonio, SERT, the Sheriff's Office Special Emergency Response Team, was dispatched to the scene where they found the officer with a "visible deformity to his nose." At the time, Granato was already facing charges, including Assault of a Pregnant Person, causing Bodily Injury, and assaulting a Peace Officer, with his bonds at $60,000.
The injured officer received medical treatment at University Hospital, where it was confirmed that he had sustained a nasal fracture. The report detailed that the incident took place in the jail's dayroom, where Granato became confrontational with a maintenance worker. The officer stepped in, ordering Granato back to his cell before being struck in the face.
It was after the officer's release from the hospital that he recounted; the start of the altercation, noting that Granato had eventually been subdued and handcuffed. Now facing a serious charge of Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, Granato's legal troubles have compounded significantly.
