In an initiative to weave the fabric of safety deeper into the community, Officers from the Boston Police Department's District B-3 recently took to Jubilee Church to conduct a vital 'STOP THE BLEED' training session. The church, positioned in the pulse of Mattapan Square, played host to this life-saving workshop, designed to equip locals with the knowledge to quickly respond in the event of a bleeding emergency.
Fourteen members of the Mattapan community were keen to learn, and appeared eager to possibly become the critical difference between life and death for a fellow citizen. The officers, doubling as instructors, took the day to lay out the groundwork of immediate response measures, encouraging each participant to never split their own focus between fear and action. According to the Boston Police Department's release, the participants were awarded certificates upon the completion of the program.
The discipline and dedication of the District B-3 officers exemplify a proactive approach to community policing, seeking to not just respond to emergencies but to preemptively prepare citizens to handle critical situations. From the pews to the parameters of public safety, Jubilee Church and its congregation have now been imbued with a skill set they hope to never have to employ, but are ready to execute if the moment arises.
This training is part of a broader strategy by the Boston Police Department to strengthen community relationships and public safety, especially in deeply woven neighborhoods such as Mattapan. Departing from the church that day, the freshly minted first responders carried a new sense of responsibility – one that may enable them to save a life. As first reported by the Boston Police Department, they represent a growing band of civilians trained to stand up to the unforeseen challenge, to not merely watch as calamity unfolds but to step confidently into the fray, medical gloves donned and pressure applied, when every second counts.
