A devastating blaze that ripped through a Burton mobile home has left a community in mourning, claiming the life of a 13-year-old boy last night. The Burton Police and Fire Departments received a distress call at around 10:45 p.m. and were dispatched to the Creekwood Mobile Home Park, where they encountered an overwhelming conflagration, as reported by WJRT.
Upon their arrival, officers learned that a 36-year-old woman, identified as the owner of the residence, managed to escape the inferno with her 11-year-old daughter, but informed the responders that her son remained trapped inside. Despite their best efforts, police officers were forced to retreat from the engulfing smoke and flames as they attempted to enter the home. The structure was already fully ablaze when Burton and Grand Blanc Township firefighters arrived and took over the scene, eventually discovering the teenager's body within what remained of the scorched dwelling. Mid-Michigan NOW reported the mother and daughter were transferred to a local hospital for minor injuries they sustained during the incident.
The tragic event has also affected the neighborhood, as the intense flames caused minor damage to two neighboring homes — a testament to the severity of the fire. The damaged property, according to officials, was declared a complete loss. The ongoing investigation led by the Burton Fire Department and Michigan State Police is working to determine the cause of this deadly fire, a fact that remains unknown, as conveyed by WNEM.
Hurley Medical Center received the surviving family members of the catastrophe, where the mother and daughter were treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being released.
