In a dramatic evening chase that could've spilled out of a Hollywood action flick, the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Golden Gate Division Air Operations team—'H-30' for short—played a pivotal role in nabbing a suspect following a high-speed pursuit. Hightailing it from the law, a felon in a vehicle led the CHP and Fairfield Police Department on a wild chase that ultimately ended off-road, according to the CHP.
Aided by spike strips that chewed through the vehicle's left side tires, the chase slowed down when the driver, reluctant to accept the end being near, decided to bolt onto the right shoulder. Abandoning the rolling car, the suspect sprinted up a hillside in a desperate bid to vanish from the grip of the officers hot on his trail. This maneuver proved fruitless under H-30's vigilant gaze from above as revealed in a Facebook post by the CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations.
The aerial unit, not just content to watch from the skies, sent down a CHP Flight Officer/Paramedic rappelling right into the thick of the action—proving that when it comes to capturing a fugitive, the CHP has its head quite literally in the clouds, and its boots on the ground. The suspect's attempt to blend into the hillside topography failed as H-30 maintained a hawk's eye, ensuring that the individual could not evade the long arm of the law.
