
A freeway shootout rattled Oakland this past weekend, leading to the arrest of a suspect after a meticulous pursuit by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. On the afternoon of March 17, shots were fired from a beige older GMC Yukon on westbound I-80 near Maritime Avenue, triggering a swift response from the authorities.
CHP officers managed to quickly track down to locate the suspect vehicle as it made its way across the Bay Bridge. Coordination with CHP San Francisco Area units resulted in a successful interception after the vehicle exited I-280 at Alemany Street. The driver, who matched the eyewitness description, was detained without any further incident, officers said.
Following the stop, CHP discovered a Glock firearm with an extended magazine and a round in the firing chamber inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail.
