In the early hours of the morning, California Highway Patrol's Helicopter H-30 played a pivotal role in the apprehension of two suspects in separate incidents, showcasing the efficiency and teamwork of local law enforcement agencies. The drama unfolded when CHP H-30 was called to assist patrol units from Dublin CHP in a high-speed chase. As the suspects dashed out of their vehicle, H-30 took to the skies.
During a breathless cat-and-mouse game, the helicopter spotted one suspect attempting a futile game of hide and seek under a freeway. "Once overhead, H-30 located a suspect hiding under the freeway and advised ground units of his location," reported the Golden Gate Division Air Operations in a Facebook post. In a quick pivot, the aerial unit was then summoned to back Alameda County Deputies in yet another vehicle chase brewing in the vicinity.
With H-30's assistance, the deputies landed their suspect. Not missing a beat, the eye in the sky rejoined the Dublin CHP now beefed up by CHP Hayward officers. The relentless helicopter hovered, its keen gaze relocating the original suspect under the freeway. Guiding the officers to the man's hiding spot, they were able to slap the cuffs on the parolee wanted on active warrants.
If not for H-30's critical support from above, the ground units might have been engaged in a prolonged and cumbersome search. Both incidents wrapped up with suspects in custody and no reported injuries. The Golden Gate Division Air Operations revealed on Facebook, "The suspect, who was on parole and having active warrants was arrested."
