Yesterday, a hiker found herself in distress at the Round Valley Regional Preserve, but thanks to the quick response of the CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations, her ordeal was swiftly addressed. The incident unfolded in the rugged terrain of the East Bay, where a recent storm had rendered trails virtually impassable with mud.
Responding to the emergency call, CHP's helicopter, H-30, teamed up with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, East Bay Regional Parks, and AMR to execute a challenging rescue operation. The muddied conditions complicated the rescue effort but, H-30 managed to pinpoint the injured party, land, a feat unto itself given the adverse terrain, and evacuate her to safety.
The hiker, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained what was determined to be a relatively minor injury. Once airlifted from the scene, she was transferred to the care of waiting AMR personnel and fire department officials, CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations reported.
Local authorities have yet to release details on the cause of the injury or the current condition of the individual involved. The collaborative rescue effort showcases the dedication and readiness of the region's emergency services, who were able to quickly adapt to the environmental challenges presented by the unsettled weather.
