Last week, chaos erupted in a Concord, California neighborhood when police responded to reports of a reckless driver smashing into garbage cans. Despite their best efforts, officers initially failed to catch the culprit in the act. According to a Facebook post by the Concord Police Department, the situation escalated when a citizen reported being followed and rammed by the same vehicle, which was later discovered abandoned at a local BART station and reported stolen.
The Concord Police Department continued their investigation and, in an unrelated discovery, found two stolen vehicles at a local hospital. Luck turned up again for the CPD, who after getting multiple calls about another reckless driver in the downtown area managed to track down the stolen vehicle. A pursuit followed but was promptly called off for the sake of public safety. It later came to light that the vehicle was involved with two male suspects committing street robberies and was later tied to the ramming incident earlier that day.
The plot thickened hours later when the notorious vehicle and its occupants came back to town. Coordinating with aerial support from the CONTRA COSTA SHERIFF-OFFICIAL PAGE, Concord detectives and patrol officers managed to stop the vehicle in Walnut Creek, subsequently arresting two individuals. "The investigation revealed one of the suspects was responsible for the ramming earlier that morning," the CPD stated in their post.
The string of crimes came to a conclusion thanks to detailed descriptions by vigilant citizens and the collaborative efforts of the victims and the police. The teamwork led to the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles and, the apprehension of two suspects - their fate now rests with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office. "We are thankful for the wonderful witnesses and brave victims that worked alongside the CPD to help recover multiple stolen vehicles," praised the Concord Police Department in their online statement.
