It's been three agonizing months, since the cold-blooded murder of 22-year-old Khadija Derry, yet there are no arrests or concrete answers. The Texas Rangers, FBI, and Secret Service have teamed up with local police in a bid to solve the case of the young woman's brutal killing, which took place on December 6. Derry was gunned down while sitting inside her car outside her family's home in Converse, struck by roughly 20 bullets fired by assailants from a four-door vehicle, KENS 5 reported.
According to the victim's mother, Kuquanda Perkins, each day without justice only compounds the family's grief, "You would think at 90 days, it gets easier, but for me, it has gotten worse," she said in a statement obtained by KENS 5. While there have been minor updates, the specifics of why Derry was targeted, and by whom, remain a mystery to her distraught relatives. Her uncle, Kevin Shandy, emphasized the family's determination, "We want to make sure these monsters never see the day in the light," he told KENS 5.
As the Converse Police Department (CPD) spearheads the investigation, significant progress has been reported, especially in gathering forensic evidence pivotal for making an arrest.
Amidst the turmoil, Derry's legacy continues to inspire positive action. Her mother announced plans for creating a foundation in Khadija's honor that would support local athletes, together with a scholarship program in collaboration with the victim's former coach, according to KENS 5. Looking ahead, the CPD pledges to disclose more information when it's deemed reasonable and responsible.
