Donnie Wise, 27, of Washington D.C., has entered a guilty plea for the illegal possession of firearms and the intent to distribute a significant amount of crack cocaine from his apartment, as confirmed by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Wise, a convicted felon, admitted to these charges before U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss, with sentencing set for July 10, 2024.
On the morning of January 18, 2023, MPD's Violent Crime Suppression Division conducted a raid on Wise's 18th Street home. Finding Wise in his bedroom, handcuffed, he informed the police he was the sole resident of the premises. The search revealed a bedroom adorned with a Zastava Arms ZPAP92 rifle and a Glock 17 pistol, both loaded and primed, while the kitchen boasted an array of drug paraphernalia.
The officers uncovered, in the vicinity of Wise's TV, a cache of illicit materials. This included a 50-round magazine, additional ammunition, empty drug capsules, and substantial quantities of cocaine base and powder cocaine. The forensic examination hitched Wise's DNA to the Glock 17, further tightening the case against him.
Wise, whose criminal record precedes him, faces up to 15 years in prison for firearm possession and another possible 20 for pushing the cocaine base. Judge Moss will determine the final sentence after contemplating the federal guidelines, as stated by the DOJ report. The capital's battle against repeat offenders like Wise continues, as law enforcement works tirelessly to dismantle networks of crime that besiege the city's heart.
