A grisly turn in a Denton slaying as police collar two culprits for the capital murder of a teen. Marcus Williams, 19, cuffed Wednesday, is implicated in the Feb. 3 killing of Ely Mendez Gomez, 16, after stalking his car near Denia Park.
Williams' girlfriend, Gabrielle Cortes, 17, was riding shotgun with Gomez at the time of the fatal shooting. She’s now singing a darker tune, with cops alleging conspiracy to rob the victim. Originally facing a lesser charge, Williams will see his day in court for an upgraded indictment, set to align with his paramour's.
The City of Denton's finest got the drop on Williams, who hails from Sanger, after canvassing the night's events. “Detectives determined that on Saturday, Feb. 3, Williams followed Mendez Gomez’s vehicle throughout the night before fatally shooting him near Denia Park,” as detailed by the Denton Police Department.
The aftermath saw Cortes turning herself in, with a $250,000 bond her ticket out. Williams, meanwhile, is cooling his heels in Denton County Jail, with his bond doubling that of his alleged accomplice. The young lovers, once connected by affections, now find themselves tethered by the law—partners in an alleged diabolical scheme culminating with gunfire in the Texan night.
