A woman in Dracut, Massachusetts, was found with severe injuries in the middle of a busy street, and police are reaching out to the public to help make sense of this incident. According to CBS Boston, the 33-year-old local woman was discovered on Pleasant Street Monday evening, lying in the street with serious injuries that later required her to be moved to a trauma center in Boston.
Residents like Anthony Carr, who lives close to where the woman was found, were caught unawares by the situation. "Just a tow truck over there and cop cars blocking off the top of the road," Carr told CBS Boston, though he didn't hear anything out of the ordinary that night. The police are still uncertain about what transpired, including whether an vehicle was involved in the woman's injuries.
The Dracut Chief of Police, Peter Bartlett, expressed the urgency of public input. "We are hoping that with the volume of people that are generally around in that area that somebody would've seen something," Bartlett said in a statement obtained by CBS Boston. They are requesting that anyone who may have been in the area between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. on that Monday to come forward if they noticed anything unusual.
In a separate report by WCVB, Bartlett explained that while the injuries seem to suggest a significant trauma, such as being struck by a vehicle, there's a need to avoid assumptions without concrete evidence. "We don't want to make any assumptions. We'd rather have information coming in from the public to help us put those puzzle pieces together." With no helpful video evidence from the nearby homes and businesses, detectives are relying heavily on any potential eyewitness accounts.
Anyone who witnessed the events on Pleasant Street or has information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the Dracut Police Department at 978-957-2123. With the victim now able to communicate, as reported by CBS Boston, authorities hope they can soon unravel the mystery of what happened to her that Monday night.
