A family-friendly Easter event turned violent when a Michigan man was arrested for cutting a relative with a knife during an Easter egg hunt at an elementary school, officials said. The 36-year-old Battle Creek man now faces aggravated assault charges after the altercation that took place last Sunday before the event had begun, with children thankfully spared from the scene as they had not yet arrived for the hunt.
According to The Detroit News, the squabble erupted over the placement of eggs for the hunt at Valley View Elementary School in Springfield. Calhoun County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the scene at around 9:15 a.m., where they found, the person with minor lacerations. Officials reported that a man and a woman had been in an argument, which escalated when a family member stepped in to mediate, leading to the suspect brandishing a knife.
Deputies managed to calm the situation and convinced the assailant to drop his weapon before taking him into custody. "Deputies arrived at the school and were able to convince the man to drop the knife," CBS News Detroit reported. The victim, fortunately, required only on-site medical attention and sustained no serious injuries.
Following the incident, authorities have lodged the suspect at the Calhoun County Jail. Despite the alarming nature of the altercation, the sheriff's office was quick to assure that no other individuals were harmed during the scuffle and that the children had not been exposed to the violence. "No one else was hurt during the coming to blows, and authorities said the children had not yet arrived at the egg hunt," communicated 13 ON YOUR SIDE.
