Thousands gathered in the pre-dawn chill this Easter Sunday for an annual tradition that's been lighting up Stone Mountain Park since 1944. Attendees experienced a spiritual awakening as the sun crested over the horizon, part of the park's long-standing Easter Sunrise Service that saw its inception nearly 80 years ago on the suggestion of Lucille A. Lanford, a congregant from Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church.

The dual non-denominational service, captured for posterity in FOX 5 Atlanta's streaming coverage, involved a ceremony at the peak and one at the base for those less inclined to take the uphill trek. Bryant Wright, the ministerial mastermind behind Right from the Heart Ministries, and Crawford Loritts of Beyond Our Generation, were the figureheads of faith leading the services. Together, they shepherded the crowd through moments of reflection and community.

For those arriving by foot, the park offered a free pass up the Stone Mountain walk-up trail, while others opted for the Skyride gondola with a $20 round-trip ticket or a one-way fare for $15, reported WSB-TV. The latter were cautioned of potential lengthy lines, a testament to the event's popularity.

After the mass ascended to either the top or remained at the base, many stayed back to soak in the additional family-oriented fun Stone Mountain Park had to offer. Catering to daytrippers, a vehicle entry fee of $20 for a day permit or $40 for an annual one was in place, with church vans and buses granted fee-free access. For the long haul visitors, an Attractions Ticket ran adults $39.99 and children $34.99, outlined FOX 5 Atlanta.
