A tragic hit-and-run in Harris County claimed the life of an Asian woman in her mid-70s Wednesday night. The incident occurred on Howell-Sugarland Road, near O'Donnell Middle School, where the victim, who was using a walker and carrying medical supplies, was struck by two vehicles around 10:30 p.m., as reported by ABC13 Houston.
The drivers of an older model white Chevy pickup truck and a newer model black Cadillac Escalade failed to stop after hitting the woman. Deputies have initiated a search for the two drivers, using witness accounts and surveillance video in their investigation. According to ABC13 Houston, the first gruesome vehicle was an older model, which may have been a white Chevy pickup truck.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office located the deceased woman in the roadway, confirming the collision. FOX 26 Houston conveyed that authorities received a call from a woman down in the northbound lanes and found the victim dead at the scene. Both reports indicate that it appears the woman was not at a crosswalk at the time of the incident.
"Investigators with the Vehicular Crimes Division arrived and interviewed witnesses. We have a description of the initial vehicle that may have been involved, which was an older-model white Chevy pickup truck. That vehicle, the driver fled the scene after the accident," Sgt. Villacorta further explained to ABC13 Houston, highlighting the search for the negligent drivers. Meanwhile, as dark as the Escalade, the second vehicle also left the scene after running over the already stricken woman lying in the roadway.
This tragedy points to the broader issues of pedestrian safety and the responsibility of drivers to remain at the scene following an accident. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring closure to this saddening case. Neither vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has been located as of yet, and the victim's name has not been released pending family notification. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
