An early morning blaze tore through a Mountain View apartment complex on Leksich Avenue, triggering a large-scale fire department response and sending a family of four to the hospital for smoke inhalation. According to official reports, the fire erupted in the 600 block of Leksich Avenue at around 4:32 a.m.
Residents were jolted awake and forced to flee as flames engulfed the structure. Firefighting units from the City of Mountain View descended upon the scene shortly after the 911 call was placed, with the first engine company arriving five minutes after dispatch. Despite the rapid response, the fire had already made its mark, causing an estimated $500,000 in damages.
Collaboration between multiple fire departments, including reinforcements from Palo Alto, Santa Clara City, Santa Clara County, and Sunnyvale, was crucial in dousing the flames. The firefighting teams launched an aggressive attack and conducted a thorough ''overhaul'' of the complex by cutting into walls and ceilings to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished. As a result of the blaze, Leksich Avenue was temporarily shut down as personnel and equipment swarmed the area.
The displaced residents were not left to weather the aftermath alone. They received immediate financial assistance in the form of $250 gift cards from the California Professional Firefighters Union, as part of a program aiding victims of emergencies. The American Red Cross and apartment management were also brought in to arrange temporary housing. Meanwhile, a family treated for smoke inhalation at the scene was transported to a local hospital for further care, according to the same report.
Investigators have pinpointed the origin of the fire to the laundry room of a first-floor apartment, documented through witness statements and video evidence, though the exact cause remains under investigation as of this time.
