
A horrific two-SUV smash-up claimed the life of one driver and left another seriously injured on a busy Austin highway last Friday night, authorities say. The accident took place in the 6200 block of N Capital of Texas Highway SB at around 9:33 p.m. Responding officers found Tawnya Sanders, the driver of one vehicle, dead at the scene while the second motorist was transported to the hospital with life-threatening conditions, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).
This crash is currently treated as Austin's 18th fatal traffic incident of the year, which accounts for the same number of casualties in the city. As the Austin Police Department noted, driving down last year's numbers, 24 fatal crashes were causing 24 deaths at this point in 2023.
