A tragic train collision in San Diego has left one pedestrian dead after an incident on the North County Transit District (NCTD) tracks near Torrey Pines State Beach. The collision occurred just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
The site of the accident was near mile post marker 245.3, a scenic stretch of coastline north of San Diego. Sheriff's Deputies from the North Coastal Patrol Station, were quick to the scene, yet despite the prompt response, they found the victim had already succumbed, "deceased from obvious signs of death due to the injuries he sustained" in the collision, reported the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
Tasked with investigating the incidences on NCTD property, the Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU) was dispatched to unravel the details surrounding the fatal incident. As part of the standard procedure following such tragic events, the Medical Examiner's Office is also involved, charged with the identification of the deceased and determining the exact cause and manner of death.
The identity of the victim has yet to be disclosed, pending notification of next-of-kin. In the meantime, authorities are reaching out, "Anyone with information about this case can call the Sheriff's Department's non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200," as the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, and the quest for information continues.
