A fifth suspect has been nabbed in relation to the murder of a North Palm Springs man, the Riverside Sheriff's Office reported. On the evening of March 21, the 17-year-old from Desert Hot Springs was taken into custody, marking yet another development in the ongoing homicide probe.
The juvenile, whose identity remains shielded due to his age, was arrested without a hitch in Palm Springs and later booked for murder at Riverside County Juvenile Hall, the investigation led by Sergeant Ben Ramirez and Sergeant Jarred Bishop is far from over, with their units digging deeper into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Victim Jeremy M. Abshear, aged 48, had been found shot dead back on May 16, 2023; as earlier updates chronicle, Cody Barneck, 33, and Mark Barneck, 66, both hailing from North Palm Springs were the first to be detained in connection with Abshear's death, a tragedy that saw emergency responders scramble to save the victim to no avail.
Subsequent arrests included 19-year-old Aisa K. Bailey of Palm Desert and 18-year-old Conner Turley—booked at the Juvenile Hall in Indio in October of last year, though he was a juvenile at the time of the murder, his actions have caught up to him, and the hands of justice are far-reaching and determined in their course.
The Riverside Sheriff's Office continues to urge anyone with potentially pivotal information to step forward, signaling out Master Investigator J. Manjarrez and Master Investigator D. Sandoval of the Central Homicide Unit as points of contact. Their persistence sends a clear message: neither time's passage nor shadows' depth can shield those entangled in the web of culpability from the relentless pursuit of the law.
