Flames tore through a Hesperia commercial strip in the dead of night as local firefighters rushed to beat back the blaze. The San Bernardino County Fire Department was called to the scene in the 14,100 block of Main Street near Topaz Avenue just after midnight on Friday, where they found the fire billowing from the roof of several businesses. Confronted with dense cold smoke that reduced visibility to nearly nothing, responders battled to control the situation.

With the fire originating in a concealed void space above the businesses, crews from the San Bernardino County and Victorville fire departments, including seven engines and more than 30 personnel, faced challenges accessing the flames. Firefighters ascended to the rooftop, cutting through to the void using chainsaws, as hose lines from ladder trucks doused the fire above, described in a statement on the San Bernardino County Fire Department's Facebook page.

Activating multiple sprinkler heads within the attic helped contain the fire, preventing it from spreading across the building but not without causing significant water damage to the properties below. Despite these damages, the response team managed to avert any personal injuries to civilians and their ranks.

Additional support was provided by the Victorville Fire Department. According to a post by the San Bernardino County Fire, noteworthy for the speed and scale of the response, featured a formidable line-up of two trucks, two battalion chiefs, one medic ambulance, and two fire investigators to face down the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under probe by the County Office of the Fire Marshal.

For any further information, Captain Jeremy Kern, the Public Information Officer, can be reached at (760) 998-1458. The investigation into what spawned the late-night inferno continues, with the local fire authorities delving into the incident to understand and prevent future occurrences.
