Three out-of-state individuals have been arrested in connection with a series of car break-ins across Macomb and Oakland counties, as detailed by Michigan authorities. Danarius Young from Florida, along with Chauncey Franklin, also from Florida, and Tennessee resident Kayln Croom face an array of charges including conspiracy and conducting a criminal enterprise. The Shelby Township Police apprehended the suspects after a string of burglary reports commenced on March 14. Police say the suspects smashed car windows and made off with valuables, a disturbingly bold strategy that played out in residential neighborhoods.
According to WWJ Newsradio, the investigation swiftly intensified as surveillance footage captured two suspects in a silver Mazda SUV. The car was later identified to be a rental from Florida. Cooperation between Shelby Township and Troy Police Departments enabled the tracking down and ultimately, the arrest of Young and Franklin after a witnessed vehicle break-in in Rochester Hills. Police Chief Robert Shelide starkly warned, “As I’ve stated several times before, if you come to Shelby Township to commit a crime, we will track you down and arrest you, no matter where you come from or where you try to hide,”
Following the arrests, the Shelby Township Tactical Response Unit executed a search warrant leading to the recovery of stolen property and detaining three additional suspects, as reported by the Macomb Daily. The investigators found the vehicle used in the crimes parked in a Rochester home's garage. The tragic events reached their peak when during the attempted escape after the break-ins, the Florida duo's accomplice was fatally struck by a vehicle on M-59. The driver, initially unaware of the dire aftermath of the collision, cooperated fully once the grim truth unraveled.
This incident turned the spotlight onto the often unseen consequences of crime, as highlighted by Hoodline, which reported that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Bonds for the incarcerated suspects were set at $250,000 for Young, $200,000 for Franklin, and $100,000 for Croom, as they await their due process in custody.
